| For all of our projects, the first question we ask ourselves is, “are people talking about this brand or service and if not, can we start such conversations”. Not all brands and industries work well with social media. If you sell lawn chairs only, we probably can’t help you. But if you sell lawn chairs and other outdoor or gardening equipment , we probably can. The answer lies with the second question we ask ourselves, which is “Who is the audience”. In the example above, the audience is home and garden enthusiasts and this would work well for social media because there are such enthusiasts who are looking to find and share with each other about their gardening and outdoor activities, and ultimately those people are interested in buying related products. If we don’t have strong answers to these first two questions, typically that’s where the conversation ends. It’s not to say that other digital promotion would be ineffective for these brands, but simply that social media may not be the most critical factor for the marketing strategy and they may be better off with other forms of online advertising like pay-per-click or banner advertising. If we do have strong answers however, the rest of the process flows pretty quickly as we move on to defining what we want this audience to do, what information they are likely to appreciate, and what networks they most frequent. The final steps are simply filling in the campaign details and logistics to achieve the client’s goals. Simple, straight forward, logical; that’s how we like it!
